Western Australian companies are making the most of India's current building boom by expanding their operations into the country.

With the assistance of the WA Global Network office in India, Crommelin Pty Ltd, a manufacturer of specialty water-proofing products for the construction industry, recently won a major contract for a large construction project in Hyderabad, India.

The India Office, located in Mumbai, carried out extensive research in the building and construction industry and identified a variety of potential clients and partners for Crommelin in destinations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Chennai.

The WA Global Network also provided valuable assistance to the company by providing them with information on marketing practices as well as legal and regulatory requirements. The network also briefed them on India’s business culture which enabled Crommelin to build connections with local partners who will market and distribute their products throughout India.

Director of the company, Tim Crommelin, said one of the greatest challenges the company faced in India was finding trustworthy businesses and people to work with.

“The India office has made it far less worrying for us due to the quality of the personal introductions made,” he said.

“We particularly wish to acknowledge Senior Trade Advisor in the India Office, Paresh Shah, for his instrumental role in identifying potential business partners and making introductions.”

Regional Director of the India Office, Simon Johnson, said the recent success of Crommelin is a great example of the vast opportunities available for Western Australian companies within the Indian market.

“The achievements of Crommelin have paved the way for other small and medium enterprises to expand their building and construction operations in India,” he said.

“The India office is always pleased to provide assistance to Western Australian businesses that are serious about entering this exciting and dynamic market.”

The WA Global Network's head office is located in Perth at the Department of Industry and Resources. The head office coordinates 15 overseas offices in 12 different countries, with the aim of furthering the economic development of Western Australia.
