The 'HyLogger' core scanner is a rapid spectroscopic logging and imaging system that uses continuous visible and infrared spectroscopy and digital imaging to examine core without destroying it in the process.
The Geological Survey of Western Australia became a key participant in a MERIWA research program to test the HyLogger and promote its use in WA's mining and exploration industry. In 2004 and 2005, at the Joe Lord Core Library in Kalgoorlie–Boulder, GSWA used the HyLogger for nine weeks and scanned more than 33,000 metres of core.
